Champion's Journey

UPDATE - We are very sad to report that Champion has crossed over Rainbow's Bridge. Due to the severe neglect that he suffered in the hands of his Owner he could not be saved. He was in extreme pain and it was getting worse each day. Under the advise of three Vets and our Farrier we helped Champion cross over Rainbow's Bridge and we were right by his side holding him. He knew if for only a short time he was loved. Until we meet again Champion. You will be greatly missed. We are sorry that we could not undo what your Owner did to you for so many years. ... read more

Healing Takes Time

At Hooves & Paws Rescue of the Heartland we know that healing takes time. Once an animal is healed on the outside we must begin the task of healing their spirit which many times is broken due to abuse and neglect. We give them the time they need to heal so they become “Whole Again”. Once they are “Whole Again” our goal is to place them in “Forever Loving Homes”. Our services have saved Federal, State, County & Local Government hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars since the day we opened our gates. We do not charge for the removal of abused and/or neglected animals when we are called on. We rely on donations to help defer the cost of these animals that are removed and brought into our care. We were contacted regarding several animals who were not being cared for in a rural area in Nebraska. The report came in that nobody was living on the property as the Owners had moved. So, we did some research and found out who the Owners were and contacted them. One of the animals living there was named Zeus. He was a 15 year old Donkey that had not received any Vet care or hoof care for many years. The owners agreed after much conversation that Zeus should be removed.
