Bear
Paw
Bear Paw is about 12 years old. He was trained in a feed lot. He needs experienced rider, as he likes to bluff his way out of work. Great on the ground. Loves attention.
Black
Hawk
Black Hawk is about 4 years old. He is bashful. Needs someone confident, and experienced, as he goes off of your body language. He is ready to train. Needs a patient person who will not push him to hard, too fast.
Sheza
Yellow Mount
Sheza Yellow Mount is a registered APHA mare. She is well trained, but since she has only the left eye, needs to build trust in her rider. She is a doll, but I wouldn't recommend her for beginners, as she wants someone she can put her trust in. Beginner riders lacks the confidence to make her feel secure.
Pleasant
Autumn "Buddy"
Pleasant Autumn "Buddy" is a gentle soul. He is an Off The Track Thoroughbred, and has recovered from his race injury. Buddy can't run barrels or anything percussive, but with the right person would be a good trail horse. Is very nice on the ground, has not been ridden for some time. Buddy is a big boy, so I think he would benefit from experienced rider.
Cade
Cade is about 4 years old. He is ready to train. Cade has speed, and athletic ability. would make a good pole or gymnkanah horse. He would be great for the right 4-Her. Needs someone who knows what they are doing to help him build his confidence.
Sparkey
Sparkey is three years old. Not a large boy, still has some growth to go. Sparkey loves people, and attention. Has been shown in 4-H halter class. Ready for training, has already had a saddle on. Eager to please, and learn.
Ruby
Ruby had a tough first three years of life. She has really started to settle down. With a little patience Ruby could be that special horse.
Morgan
Morgan, is a 4 year old registered Morgan. His first few years taught him humans could be abusive. Morgan is very smart, and needs someone who is patient, and knows what they are doing. He doesn't warm up to people easily, seems to prefer men over women. His abusive owner was a female with a high, shrill voice. Needs a confident person to help him continue to grow and learn.
Rocky
Rocky is about three years old, he is a stud colt. Rocky has a great disposition, and though I haven't had him long, he seems like a real sweet heart. Eager to learn.

4 Special Horses for Adoption
The three 3 older horses have some lameness on front legs but can be controlled with the proper medicine. Soda is also blind in one eye but it does not seem to cause a problem. Rusty was a nice 4H show mare for years.
Soda & Rita could be broke to ride with a little kindness & love. All horses are halter broke but none are broke but are gentle. The older horses, Misty & Rusty would make great pasture pals for any older horse who needs a buddy.
Please contact us at Hooves & Paws Rescue if you are interested in any of these wonderful horses who are looking for a forever home. These horses were all loved and cared for by their previous Owner. As with all our adoptions a home check is required to make sure that your property is horse friendly. We also require an adoption agreement which can be found on our website under forms. Adopt Us

Stella
Stella is a 6 y/o Red Dun quarterhorse mare. She suffered a bowed tendon injury about 18 months ago, and has been in horsie physical therapy for the past year. Although Stella is doing great under saddle, she may still need several months to become 100% sound, or may never be 100 % sound.
Stella was started under saddle and will walk, trot and canter. Stella has trouble picking up a Right canter lead as her right front has the old injury, she is very sound on the Left canter lead. Stella is ridden in a snaffle bit and is very soft on the bit and has a great natural headset, which was all achieved through feel, no gadgets have been used on her. Stella sidpasses, pivots on the hind and the fore and backs up softly. Stella has just had her teeth floated and is current on all vax and dewormer. Stella is shod with eggbars and a wedge pad on her front feet to aid in the strength of rebuilding muscle tone in her right front leg. She eats off a brome hay roundbale and is fed Strategy. She is very low on the todem pole with other horses.
This is a mare with a good mind and is very smart. Stella would not be a beginners horse, as she is so smart she needs a partner with experience, she likes to know you will be a confident and fair leader, she thrives on consistency of her handler.
Major
Major is a 15 year old Paint/TB gelding that came in last January as a cruelty case. He has been in foster care for weight gain and has done fabulous. Both the vet and farrier say he will make a sound riding companion and his foster mom thinks he is just a wonderful boy.
Deputy
Deputy is an 07 TB gelding that came in last January as a cruelty case. He was in foster care for weight gain and has become a big healthy boy and is now working on learning good manners and ground work. He will make someone a very good riding prospect and companion.

Beau an 11 yr old Bay Arabian Gelding. Beau is in foster care for weight gain, he came in as a cruelty case. He is easy to work around, seems to have a calm, confident disposition and picks up all 4 feet with ease. As Beau gains weight and becomes healthier we will start to learn more about him.

2 Horses found on Highway
We received a call from Mills County Sheriff's Department today about two horses they found walking down the road in Pacific Junction, IA. They spoke with a family who took them in their pasture until tomorrow and then we have to remove them and find a foster home for them until they can be adopted through our Rescue. They are both beautiful horses. They appear to be very calm and they have good weight. We have contacted several people in this area and they do not belong to anyone in the area. We are hoping they were not just let out of a horse trailer but this is happening more and more these days. The area they were walking in is a huge horse community.
We would like to thank everyone who called and e-mailed us regarding the two horses found walking down the road in Pacific Junction, IA. We just moved the horses tonight to a temp foster home about an hour or so away. They are in wonderful inside stalls tonight and resting. Both of the mares jumped in the horse trailer with no problems.
More Later....
Update on the two horses found walking down the road in Pacific Junction, IA.
They will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. We would love to place these two together as they are very attached to each other. Both are mares. The larger appears to be an Appy Cross and is approx 18 years old and the pony is approx the same age or a little older. The Appy is very sweet, has not offered to kick, bite and does not appear to have any bad habits. She also has good weight. She is blind in one eye. We have many blind horses and this has not caused us any problems when riding them.
The little pony is also a mare and she is warming up very quick. She loves attention.
Both horses jumped in our horse trailer without any issues. I wish we knew their whole story but at this time we are just going to have to go forward and learn about them as we go. If you are interested in meeting these two beautiful horses and giving them a second chance at a happy life please contact us at Hooves & Paws Rescue at 712-527-3721.

Update
We went to see Rosey & Giggles today. They are doing wonderful and are ready for adoption. We brushed them and got to know them a little better. They are very attached to each other and sharing a stall. Otherwise Rosey is not happy. Rosey has lost her sight in one eye and sadly she seems to be losing her sight in the other eye now but does fine as long as Giggles is with her to help her. Giggles is her guide. She runs when outside and Rosey follows. They are very good buddies. They need a special home together. If you are interested please contact us at Hooves & Paws Rescue at 712-527-3721 to meet them. They are being fostered in Nebraska. We want to thank our foster home as they have provided a wonderful safe place for both horses until adoption is possible. Both are loved and spoiled by many people at their foster home.
