Rudy has been adopted to a wonderful family in Nebraska. Rudy was not being fed or cared for so he was removed from his Owner. He is doing wonderful now. He is broke to ride and will be cared for by a young man and used for western events. Great job Rudy. You look so good and we are very proud of you!

Chuck has been adopted to a wonderful family in Nebraska. He had a very rough start in life and was taken from his Owner because he was not being fed or cared for. As you can see he is doing wonderful now and is very spoiled. We are very happy for you Chuck. You are a beautiful boy, no question about that.

This is Dora, She came from the Carroll Iowa horse seizure in November 2010. We thought everyone might like to see some before and after photos. Dora has now been adopted and is in a wonderful loving home.

Maggie has been adopted by the McEwen Family in Iowa June 2011.
Maggie was one of the 35 horses we removed during the Carroll, Iowa horse seizure November 2010. Maggie has come a long way and has turned the corner and started to trust and love again. She is a truly a beautiful mare inside and out. We are so happy so has found her forever home. Her new family are wonderful people. She will have all the love and kisses she needs and deserves with her new family. Be happy Maggie. We are so proud of you!

This beautiful Mommy and Baby were an Owner Surrender because their Owner could no longer care for them. Baby was born May 18, 2011. We are very happy to share with you that they have been adopted by one of our long time foster homes. We want to thank Don and Nancy in Plattsmouth, NE for everything they have done for us and the horses at Hooves & Paws Rescue and now they have went above and beyond by adopting both Mommy & Baby. These pictures are the first day they arrived at Don & Nancy’s, May 29, 2011.

We have been adopted together!! June 10, 2011 we went to our new home with Patrick & Lynne in Iowa. Patrick & Lynne are very special people and they opened their heart and home to us. Although Rosita (her new name) the Appy is blind she has her little friend (new name will be announced soon) to guide her and they are very attached to each other. Patrick & Lynne have a beautiful area for both horses and they are very excited to have them join their family. They will be very spoiled & loved with Patrick & Lynne and that is all we want for all the animals that are adopted. We want to thank Dorothy a good friend of our at Hooves & Paws Rescue for fostering both horses until adoption was possible. She is a special lady and has been a good friend since we opened our doors at Hooves & Paws Rescue.

2 Horses found on Highway

We received a call from Mills County Sheriff's Department today about two horses they found walking down the road in Pacific Junction, IA. They spoke with a family who took them in their pasture until tomorrow and then we have to remove them and find a foster home for them until they can be adopted through our Rescue. They are both beautiful horses. They appear to be very calm and they have good weight. We have contacted several people in this area and they do not belong to anyone in the area. We are hoping they were not just let out of a horse trailer but this is happening more and more these days. The area they were walking in is a huge horse community.

We would like to thank everyone who called and e-mailed us regarding the two horses found walking down the road in Pacific Junction, IA. We just moved the horses tonight to a temp foster home about an hour or so away. They are in wonderful inside stalls tonight and resting. Both of the mares jumped in the horse trailer with no problems.
More Later....

Update on the two horses found walking down the road in Pacific Junction, IA.

They will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. We would love to place these two together as they are very attached to each other. Both are mares. The larger appears to be an Appy Cross and is approx 18 years old and the pony is approx the same age or a little older. The Appy is very sweet, has not offered to kick, bite and does not appear to have any bad habits. She also has good weight. She is blind in one eye. We have many blind horses and this has not caused us any problems when riding them.

The little pony is also a mare and she is warming up very quick. She loves attention.

Both horses jumped in our horse trailer without any issues. I wish we knew their whole story but at this time we are just going to have to go forward and learn about them as we go. If you are interested in meeting these two beautiful horses and giving them a second chance at a happy life please contact us at Hooves & Paws Rescue at 712-527-3721.

10/29/10 Update
We went to see Rosey & Giggles today. They are doing wonderful and are ready for adoption. We brushed them and got to know them a little better. They are very attached to each other and sharing a stall. Otherwise Rosey is not happy. Rosey has lost her sight in one eye and sadly she seems to be losing her sight in the other eye now but does fine as long as Giggles is with her to help her. Giggles is her guide. She runs when outside and Rosey follows. They are very good buddies. They need a special home together. If you are interested please contact us at Hooves & Paws Rescue at 712-527-3721 to meet them. They are being fostered in Nebraska. We want to thank our foster home as they have provided a wonderful safe place for both horses until adoption is possible. Both are loved and spoiled by many people at their foster home.

Two Horses abandoned at crash scene--Good News
We have been adopted together!! We found a family that thought we were very special when they met us and took us home to their beautiful country home in Iowa. We feel very lucky that we were adopted together and we love our new family. We want to thank our foster family for caring for us and loving us until we could find our forever home. Without foster homes horses like us may not have a chance at a happy life. So a huge thank you to Phil, Jo and their extended family for loving us while we waited for our forever home.

We would like to share with everyone a very sad story about two horses we recently picked up after their Owner got in a wreck with a truck and horse trailer. About 12:30 a.m there was a knock on our door and the Highway Patrol said they needed our help. They had found a truck and horse trailer that was involved in an accident that had went off the interstate in Iowa and was left in a field with two horses in it. The Owners had abandoned the horses in the trailer along with their truck and disappeared. They told us that one of the horses had went through the windshield of the horse trailer and they were not sure what condition the horses were in. We headed out immediately to try and help these horses. We made arrangements to have our Vet meet us at the scene of the accident.

The horse trailer was wrecked and still hooked to the truck. A towing company was called to pull the truck and horse trailer out of the field to the road so that we could gain access to the horses inside the trailer. I crawled through the window of the horse trailer so that I could get inside with the horses to see how bad they were hurt. It was a very small two horse straight load horse trailer and the horses were tied with ropes to the inside of the trailer. They were tied so tight to the inside of the trailer I had to cut the ropes loose. It took a little while before I was able to get halters and leads on the horses and then Bill & I backed the horses out of the horse trailer. They we very scared. We had our Vet look the horses over to make sure we had no broken legs on the horses after what they had been through during the accident. The mare had been the horse who went through the windshield of the horse trailer and she had several lacerations on her head and around the mouth area. She also had a tooth knocked out and was bleeding from the mouth. We walked both horses for several minutes before trying to load them into our horse trailer. We found out quickly that they are very attached to each other. We loaded the gelding first and he got a little crazy because he wanted to have the mare by him. So we unloaded him and walked them into our trailer side by side. After we secured them in our horse trailer we headed out.

The Owners of these horses have since contacted us and said they want their horses back. At this time we have been advised that the horses are in our possession and they should not be released to the Owners. For the safety of the horses and the safety of our other animals at our facility these two horses were placed in a foster/safe house where they will remain until adoption is possible. At this time they are healing and learning about love & trust. Both horses had whip marks on their bodies. They were also very fearful of people and head shy.

They are both starting to trust people again. Our foster/safe house has done an incredible job with the horses helping them heal. They have be wormed and Vet checked. They have also had their hooves done since arrival. Both horses are gaining weight and learning to adjust to a normal life. Both horses are broke to ride. They should however only go to homes with horse experience. These are not horses for children but they would be good riding horses for someone with horse experience. We require an adoption agreement as with all of our horses and large breed dogs that we adopt. We also have right of refusal. We do not want these horses to end up in the wrong hands again. A home check will be done on all adoptions. And we also do rechecks on all of our horses & large breed dogs that are adopted.

We would like to share some pictures of the horses with you. If you are interested in these horses please contact our rescue for more information on each of the horses. We hope to adopt these horses together. They will be ready for adoption in a few weeks. They both deserve a second chance at a happy life.

The gelding is on the left and the mare is on the right. We estimate these horses to be about 7 or 8 years old.

UrgentWith the help of many people on the FOB Boards we raised enough money to transport Princess to Glenwood, IA. These people are incredible! They worked so hard to help us get this mare to safety. As of tonight 01/29/10, at 10:00 p.m. Princess was picked up in Kentucky by our transport and she is headed for a stay for a couple days with our transport people, New Beginnings Animal Refuge in New Salisbury, IN. Right now there is several inches of snow in Kentucky and they are calling for several more inches so we wanted to make sure she got out of Kentucky before tonight and we just made it. Thank you to everyone involved in this truly incredible save of this precious mare.

mollyUpdate -- Princess Has Been Adopted!! I went to see Princess today at her new home. She is doing very well. She is truly one of the sweetest mares I have ever known. When I walked in her stall she came right to me. She is so trusting. She puts her head in your chest and wants to be loved.

She is getting senior feed twice a day, supplements and weight builder. Of course I had tears the whole time I was there. I thank God we had the chance to save her. We are very happy at this time with the progress she is making.

I wanted to share some pictures I took today of Princess & I and thank everyone again for making it possible to save this beautiful mare.

The Christmas Seven Horses
Many of you may have seen the new cast on Channel 6 News,
please click here to read the news story about the seven horses that were surrendered to our rescue Christmas Eve 2007.  What you have not seen is all of the suffering & pain they have endured.  Pictures do not tell the whole story.  We have spent a lot of time with all these horses.

Race & Karot are looking for a forever home. We hope to adopt them together as they have been together for a very long time and they are attached to each other.  Race, on the left below, is a TB/Quarter Horse Gelding, 18- 20 years old.  He is broke to ride and should be rode lightly due to his age.

Karot, on the right, is a Quarter Horse, 23 - 25 years old mare.  She is broke to ride and should be also be rode lightly due to her age.  Both of these horses are doing very well and are in a foster home together in Nebraska.
They are both very sweet horses and need to find a great forever home that will love them.  They are current on shots.  Their hooves are done every (6) weeks and their teeth have just been floated.  They are ready to go to the right home.  Please call us if you are interested in Race & Karot. We are asking $400.00 for the pair.

Cinderella Has Been Adopted
Cinderella is a small white mule and she is looking for a forever home. With the help of Tina Murdock, a good friend, the three paint horses that were on the same property as Cinderella were removed and taken to her home to heal and they will be part of her herd of horses.  Thank you Tina for your help in this one!
This is a picture of (2) of the (7) ponies & horses that we removed from a Tabor, IA residence Christmas Eve 2007.

Bess & Babe were adopted to a wonderful family. This little girl is amazing with these ponies.  When we picked them up you could not touch them.  Now look at them.  This is an example of what a little love can do for animals. And, how little children make miracles happen.

Percy a (8) year old QH/Arabian has found his forever home with Janet in Iowa.  Percy has a new friend named  JJ.  Percy is in the lead in this picture.  When we took Percy out of the trailer and he met his new friend JJ they took off running together likes old buddies. JJ is a big sweet older QH.  He showed Percy all around when Percy arrived at his new home.

Percy had a rough life before we he was rescued by Hooves & Paws. Percy was not touched for almost (2) years and he was not being fed on a regular basis. When we rescued Percy he was also dehydrated. His new Owner Janet is a wonderful Lady and she fell in love with Percy the first day she met him. Be Happy Percy.  We love you beautiful boy!!  And we know Janet and JJ do to!!

Socks has been adopted by a wonderful family in Iowa. Her new best friend is a very special little girl who will give Socks all the love and attention she deserves. She has been re-named Frosty Socks!! Be happy Frosty Socks. You are a very lucky mare to have such a wonderful family to love you and care for you.

Six Bits has been adopted by Becky from Iowa.  We want to thank Becky & her family for adopting Six Bits and giving him an incredible home.  Six Bits is truly a gentle giant.

Jack was rescued from severe abuse and neglect.  He was adopted by an incredible family in Iowa.  We want to thank them for seeing the beauty in Jack regardless of his outward appearance due to his abuse & neglect.  The family's Vet told them to see us to adopt a horse as we have some very special animals for adoption.  I showed them a picture of Jack and they said they wanted to adopt him & help him heal. They were waiting in their drive-way for us when we drove up with Jack.  These are some pictures of Jack upon arrival at his new home. He looks pretty rough in these pictures but we know as with all our abuse & neglect cases it takes time to heal inside & out and this family will help Jack heal. Jack never lifted his head once from eating the day we dropped him off at his new home.

Doc, Shooter and Apache have been adopted. This is Doc & Shooter.  They were both bought at auction.  They along with (10) other horses were brought to the sale barn and were getting ready to be loaded on a truck and taken to horse slaughter with known kill buyers.  Some wonderful friends of ours bid against the kill buyers but only had enough money to save two of them.

Doc (on left) is a (4) year old Arab/Quarter Horse, we were told under saddle as a 3 year old. We have not been on him. We have been working on ground manners. He is shy around the head but loves cookies and attention. He also has the want to latch on attitude. He should not be hard to start under saddle. we will try to work with him in this next month as far as bridling and putting a saddle on him and we will let you know how it goes.

Shooter a 2 year old quarter horse. What a dream. Will stand tied/ will take fly spray or a bath with or without a halter. Very mild and loving personality. He would be a great horse for a younger person to start working with. He has no bad vices. Wonderful will do attitude. Loves to be groomed.

Apache  is a 15 month old Stud colt. He has a pocket pony attitude. Very loving. He leads and we have been working with him on picking up his feet. He is very mellow and loving. We do have the papers to register him. He is Brown and White. He is growing quick and should easily mature to 15 hands. He loves to follow you around - even without a lead rope. He will try to tuck his nose right into your back pocket.

Apache and Lakota have been adopted. Apache (on left) & Lakota (on right) are looking for a forever home. We would like to place them together as they have been together a number of years. For more information on these two paints please contact us.

2) Belgium Draft Horses Looking For A Forever Home or A Foster/Safe House
Babe & Zeus have went to IL to a children's camp with several programs where Babe & Zeus should do wonderful.

Babe & Zeus are very big boys. They are perfectly sound. Zeus goes on voice commands and can be mounted from any side and is very patient. . Babe is a big love - he loves to be groomed and pampered. They have spent 12 years together and I would hate to break them up now. Zeus had a throat defect that he was born with that makes it hard to swallow hay. He has outgrown that pretty much. In winter we give him alfalfa pellets to help with weight to make sure he gets enough when on hay for the winter. He does great on grass because it is wet from the dew. But they are both easy keepers really. They are up to date on shots and de-wormer. They are both broke to ride.
