Please Help Our Rescued Horses

At Hooves & Paws Rescue in addition to rehabilitating abused, starved, neglected or unwanted horses. We also offer the opportunity to place elderly horses at our facility, if they can no longer be cared for by their owners. Often an aging, yet still loved animal can become a burden on its owner. This option provides the reassurance of knowing their animal will live out its days at the rescue.

Because of the overwhelming number of calls we are receiving each day from agency's and individuals that need to place unwanted, neglected and starved horses and large breed dogs we need to expand our Rescue Facility. We have the opportunity to buy additional land if we can raise the money to do so.  We are asking for everyone's help with this expansion. If you can make a monthly donation or a one time donation this will allow us to start expanding and help the animals that are depending on us.

The following is a wish list for our rescued horses:

  • Good quality grass hay-this seems to be easy on the horses systems.
  • Grain of any type-we feed grain twice a day.
  • Senior Horse Feed-We love seniors at our rescue as we do all of our animals, but seniors require special feed and they deserve it.
  • Horse De-Wormer–We De-Worm all of our horses every (4) to (6) weeks depending on what condition they are in.  This product cost on an average $10.00 per horse each time they are De-Wormed.
  • Apple Treats–All the horses at the rescue love these treats.  When we work with the horses on ground manners this is a good reward for a job well done.
  • Fresh Fruit–Any kind of apples or carrots.  Apples and carrots may seem pretty basic but some of the horses that come to our rescue have never had an apple or carrot.
  • Horse Grooming Tools–Grooming is very important.  When a horse is groomed they feel love and attention.  Many have never been groomed before coming to us.  They all seem to enjoy this special time.
  • Farrier Services-Most of the horses hooves are in very poor shape and it takes many appointments with a Farrier to get their hooves back into shape.  This is a very important service that is needed on a regular schedule.  Currently the Farrier must come every (4) to (5) weeks at $30.00 a horse.
  • Wood Fencing and/or Electric Fencing-We have one area with electric fencing but we need another area for quarantine.
  • Lean-To building material/Barn building material-We now have (1) large barn for and (1) lean to In order for us to take in more rescues we need building materials to build another large barn (steel building) & another lean to.
  • Seed for our horse's field
The average cost per month to take care of a horse that comes into the rescue, which includes food, de-wormer, shelter and Farrier services is $150.00. It does not include veterinarian visits.

Please consider helping our rescued horses. For more information feel free to contact us directly or you may utilize PayPal to make your donation securely by credit card or directly from your checking account.

Two Horses

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing. Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

If nearby and listening, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her halter is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her.

As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see how she is always checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk to where she is, trusting that she will not lead him astray. When she returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, she stops occasionally and looks back, making sure her friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need.

Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others see.

Good friends are like this. You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.

Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.

"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle".
