We would like to thank Karen at Baker's Supermarkets for
inviting us to their Annual Safety Event June 6, 2009. We
took AnnaBelle our first rescued horse to the event. She is
a forever resident due to her severe abuse and ongoing
health issues. She did very well and got a lot of attention
and love at the event. We raised awareness about what we do
at Hooves & Paws Rescue and also met some incredible people
at this event. We also raised over $1,100 at this event
through donations!! Thank you to everyone who attended and
who support our rescue. We would like to send a huge thank
you to our friend and a member of our board of directors,
Susan for helping at this event. She is a huge part of our
rescue and the work we do and we thank her for everything
she does for us and the horses & large breed dogs at the
rescue.
2009 Swing For The Animals

We would
like to thank everyone who joined us for our 2009 Swing For
The Animals Golf Tournament May 3, 2009. We had a beautiful
day for the event. We raised awareness of the animals in
need all over the US and also raised many donations to help
with the care of the animals at our rescue.
A huge
thank you goes out to our sponsors of this event.

May 17, 2009
We welcomed the Horse Lovers from Nebraska for a day
of fun at the rescue. The children & even one of the
parents had a chance to ride Chuck our lesson
horse. They also groomed a few of the horses and
played with a few of the dogs. We want to thank
this wonderful group of children, the parents and
their leader Rose Edwards for stopping out to join
us for a beautiful day. This is the second visit
this group has made to the rescue. We want to share
some pictures of their day at the rescue. We want
to thank our new Volunteers for helping during this
event.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We would like to thank everyone who stopped by to see us at the NE Horse
Expo March 13, 14 & 15 2009. We had offers for foster/safe houses for
both horses and dogs and we met many wonderful people. We would also
like to thank all the Volunteers who helped at our booth. A special
thank you to everyone who donated items for us to sell to raise some
much needed money for our rescued large breed dogs & horses. We would
like to share a few pictures of our three days spent at the NE Horse
Expo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We would like to send a special thank you to The Horselovers 4H Club of Nebraska & The Happy Hearts 4H Group who raised over $306.00 at the Bake Sale & Craft Sale February 14, 2009 for Hooves & Paws Rescue, Inc. We would also like to thank all the parents who helped make this event a huge success. A huge thank you to Rose who is the 4H Leader for her continued help and support for our rescue.

AnnaBelle
& Genea enjoying the Company of a special little
girl named Paige.
We would like to thank everyone who stopped by to
visit us at the NHS February 14, 2009 during the
Taylor Made event. We took AnnaBelle one of our
rescued horses to this event and she did very well.
We raised
over $600.00
at this event. All donations raised will be used
for our rescued horses and large breed dogs care.
We also want to thank
everyone
who donated items for our raffle.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We
would like to thank everyone who joined us for Swing For The Animals Golf Tournament Benefit
for Hooves & Paws Rescue October 11, 2008. We hope
everyone had a wonderful time at the event. I know
we did!
We are very pleased to report that we received $1,500 in donations from this event. Half of these funds will be put in a special account that we have set up for our much needed expansion at our rescue facility. The other half will be used for the care of our rescued horses & large breed dogs.
Some of our sponsors of the event providing prizes were Pepsi Cola of Omaha, Greco Insurance, Stacy's Car Wash, Golf USA & Austad's Golf. Our main Tee Box sponsor was Mr. Landscape out of Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
Team
Merkley won 1st Place, First Flight. Team McCall
won 1st Place 2nd Flight. We had (44) Golfers join
us for our event for the animals.
Bubba, one of our rescued Saint Bernard's at the
rescue attended our event. He made a lot of new
friends and received a lot of pets & hugs from all
who attended. Bubba also rode in the golf cart with
Genea Stoops, President of Hooves & Paws Rescue and
Connie who is a good friend and volunteer at our
rescue facility. Bubba followed the team of Bill
Stoops, Vice President of Hooves & Paws Rescue while
his team golfed. Half way through the golf event
Bubba fell asleep in the golf cart so it was a
little tough driving the cart with a 165 lb Saint
Bernard sleeping in the seat but we managed.
Connie, our volunteer was a trooper and rode on the
back of the cart while Bubba slept.

Girl Scout Troop #104 from Glenwood, Iowa toured our
rescue September 28, 2008. They will return to the
rescue to build volunteer hours during 2008. The
girls all were able to ride our lesson horse Chuck
and all the girls were smiling from ear to ear.
Everyone rode bareback! Even those who had never
rode. So we were very proud of all of them. The
girls also groomed some of the horses and spent time
with our rescued large breed dogs. We all had a
wonderful time. Their next trip to the rescue will
be a work day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We
would like to thank the members of the Bellevue Nature & Garden Club
for touring our rescue July 20, 2008. Although it was very hot we
had a wonderful time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although we had a nice crowd at our Family Fun
Day Benefit, and we had a lot of fun we fell extremely short of our goal of $40,000.00 for
our expansion at our rescue facility. We did raise
just over $2,800.00 and this will be put in a fund
for our expansion. We want to thank everyone who
donated while at our Family Fun Day Benefit. We
also want to thank all our Volunteers for their help
and support.
We are asking everyone to help us continue to raise funds for our much needed expansion before winter hits. We currently have many horses and large breed dogs that we are responsible for. We have placed some of these animals in foster/safe houses due to the fact that we are out of space at our rescue facility. As many of you know we have had land donated to us, now before winter we need to fence the area and put shelters up for the horses at minimum.
If anyone has any fund raising ideas or wants to become involved in any way with fundraising for our rescue facility we welcome the chance to speak with you. We also need Volunteers to help on Sundays with brushing horses, brushing dogs, cleaning up the dog’s area and various other projects. Please call in advance before coming to the rescue as we have a lot of tours coming up that we plan on having on Sundays. We also do home checks and work on our books on Sundays. But we still have a lot that we need to get done before winter and very little time to do it. We will be painting the dog’s room from top to bottom within the next two weeks so if you can help with that project please let us know.
We like all rescue facilities do not get any funding of any type other than donations. Because of this we must rely on the public to help us continue the work we do at our rescue facility.
Each rescue that we go on is an unknown. We have so many things that come up regarding the care of these animals that we are asked to help. Regardless of these unknowns we still continue to help each and every animal that we possibly can. If we can’t place the animal at our rescue for any reason we work hard to foster or adopt the animal through our rescue.
Our next event that we are working on will be a Golf Outing. We are looking at late September or early October. Billy, my husband is a very good golfer (that is what he tells me anyway). So, he will be a huge part of planning this event. If anyone is a Golfer or knows a person who likes to Golf and would like to help plan this event please let us know.
We are looking for sponsors for this event. So, if you have any ideas for sponsors for this event please contact us and we will make an appointment to speak with them.

(2) Week
Food Drive June 23, 2008 through July 6,
2008
For The Animals In Need At The Food Bank In
Omaha, NE
Family
& Friends,
My husband and I saw an article as I
am sure many of you did in the
Sunday Omaha World Herald June 22,
2008. The article was
Food help
requests for dogs, cats rise
Think about this everyone. There
are people are going to the food
bank and asking for help to feed
their pets. This broke our
hearts.
We are starting a drive at Hooves &
Paws Rescue to help get dog food,
puppy food, cat food & kitty food
together so we can help as many
people & animals as possible get
through these tough times we are all
facing with the high prices of
everything from gas to groceries.
Hooves & Paws Rescue has recently
had a donation of dog food to our
rescue and we are willing to be the
first ones to donate (10) Bags of
dog food to help get this started.
If you can donate a bag of dog food,
puppy chow, cat food or kitty food
please let us know and we will
accept donations at our rescue and
we will deliver them to the food
bank for these people to help them
through these tough times.
These people love their pets and
many are doing all they can to stay
afloat. These people do not
want to give their animals up so
they are asking for help. Let's
help as many animals out there as
possible with this drive.
Animal Food can be dropped off
at our rescue each evening after
6:00 p.m. If you are out of
state and you can't donate a bag of
food we will accept donations toward
this cause and we will use your
donation to purchase as much food as
possible with the donations sent to
our rescue. We will deliver all the
food to the food bank in Omaha, NE.
as soon as we get enough to fill our
horse trailer! With any luck and a
few prayers we will need to make two
trips!
We would like to thank everyone who
dropped off pet food at our rescue
facility for the Pet Food Drive that
we held for the Omaha Food Bank.
We also want to thank the Omaha
World Herald for the nice article
they did on our rescue Saturday July
5, 2008 to help us get the word out
about the Pet Food Drive that we
held through Sunday July 6, 2008.
We collected almost 900 lbs of dog
food, cat food and treats for the
people who own pets and receive food
assistance from the Omaha Food
Bank.
In a recent article by the Omaha
World Herald they stated that many
people who receive food assistance
for their family were also asking
for assistance feeding their pets.
So, after reading this my husband &
I thought we would have a Pet Food
Drive to try and help some of these
pet owners.
Remember, our pets do not understand
when we are having a hard time
because of lack of funds. The only
thing they understand is my bowl is
empty and I am hungry. During these
hard economic times everyone suffers
to some extent. A bag a dog and/or
cat food may just help some people
get past that hump in the road until
the next time they get paid. So, we
were very happy to be able to have
this event to help those who just
need a little extra time to make it
through those tough times we all
face.
We would like to make this a regular
event. Although we are very busy at
our rescue and something is always
going on we think this is also a
very important issue.
The pet food was delivered to the
Omaha Food Bank Monday July 7,
2008. Again, thank you to everyone
who made a donation of pet food.

The seminar April 20, 2008 that was given at our
rescue facility for the Horse Lovers 4-H Club was a
wonderful event.
Rose Edwards, the leader of the group is a very
special lady. She brought with her a group of
wonderful children and several of the children's
parents. Everyone in the group had a chance to
spend time with all of the dogs, puppies and horses
at the rescue. The children took turns leading two
of the horses, Chuck & Fever.
They also brought
several donations from various vendors in
the Nebraska area. We also received
monetary donations from several individuals that
came for the seminar. We would like to thank the
following vendors for the in-kind donations that
were sent along with the Horse Lovers 4H Club to be
donated to our rescue. Tractor Supply Company,
Northwest Feed & Grain, Lucky D Tack & Farrier
Supply and Starborn Farms. We all had a wonderful
time during this event. The children were a very
well behaved and we welcome them all back
anytime! Here are some pictures of the event.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We want to thank everyone who stopped by to
visit with us at the Nebraska Horse Expo March 7th
8th & 9th 2008. We
made a lot of contacts, met many wonderful people and had several
individuals and family’s offer to volunteer at our rescue facility.
Victoria Louise, one of our rescued St. Bernard’s came with us all
three days to help greet people. We also brought Sophia Lynn
Sunday to help us greet people. This was the first time Sophia
Lynn has been to an event and she did very well.
Both
St. Bernard’s got a lot of love & hugs from many animal lovers. We
passed out material regarding our mission at our rescue facility. We
had several people offer to become safe houses for both horses and
large breed dogs which was very nice.
We
would like to thank everyone for the donations we received at the
Expo. We
received over $900.00
in our jar that we had set up to benefit our horse & large breed dog
rescue. All
donations received will be used for the care of our rescued horses &
large breed dogs care.
And finally we would like to thank everyone with the Nebraska Horse Council for the kind words of encouragement for the work we do for the horses across Iowa, Nebraska and the bordering states.

We have been lucky enough to have several students from Abraham
Lincoln High School donate their time selling raffle tickets
for our rescue. The prize is a Trajet Tub which was donated to the
students to try and raise money for Walter's Medical bills (Walter
is one of our rescued Percheron horses). Abraham Lincoln High
School has also given their ok to allow the students to do whatever
fund raisers they can think of to help us at our rescue. We have
been told the students have some other fund raising ideas in the
works. So watch our events calendar for more events by the
students at Abraham Lincoln High School!
The raffle
tickets are $2.00 each. If you are interested in buying
tickets please contact the rescue. The tickets will also be
available at our upcoming event Saturday October 20, 2007.
We would like to thank everyone who purchased a
raffle ticket for a chance to win the Trajet Hot Tub to help
with Walter's Medical bills. The winner of the Hot Tub was
Sherry Lewis from Council Bluffs, IA. Congratulations Sherry!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We
would like to thank the Missouri River Misfits for the Funday
Event (Horse Show) that took place Saturday November 3, 2007 to
raise funds for our rescue facility.
The
event was a lot of fun and we also raised some much needed money
that will be used for our rescued horses & large breed dogs
care. We would like to also send a special thank you to Tim
Smith who owns Copper Horse Ranch in Pacific Junction, IA for
allowing us to have the event at his wonderful facility.
There was a
very special little girl at the event that kept a smile on our
face the whole time.
She
was fearless and she rode like a professional. We would like to
share some of the pictures of the event and one
video.
On
Sunday, August 12, 2007 for Abbey, the little Dachshund that
lost use of her back legs, we presented "Abbey" with her new
cart to help her walk on her own again.
She took
off walking as soon as we put her in the cart. She
even went backwards and turned around. We were very happy
that we could do this for "Abbey" and her Mom (Owner),
Kitty. All donations for the cart were received by Glenwood &
Malvern, IA dog lovers. Thank you Glenwood & Malvern, IA
for helping "Abbey" get her wheels!
We want to send a
special thank you to the whole family for all their hard work
and caring enough about our rescue to do such a wonderful task.
We are lucky to have volunteers like the Cook Family who care so
much about our rescue. This is a picture of Regan Cook, she
loves Shooter.
