Adopt One of Our Animals

Bear is a 2 1/2 year old Chocolate Lab.  Bear came from the Waterloo, Iowa Humane Society. His previous home abused Bear, never took him for walks, and had him tied on a leash all day even in the freezing cold! Bear has aggression issues when he first meets strangers.  But he has never actually bit anyone. He just barks.  After a couple times of being around someone he is a normal dog. So far I have seen major improvements with Bear and feel with a little more time Bear can overcome his fearful aggression. Bear has all of his shots and is altered. Bear should be placed in a home that has time to continue to work with him on a daily basis.  He should not be placed in a home with children under (18) or other dogs until he has more training.

Bear is a young dog that deserves a chance to prove what a great guy he is.  Please contact our rescue if you are interested in adopting or foster Bear.

We recently had an Owner surrender (3) very special Doberman's to our rescue.  Due to the circumstances of the surrender these (3) dogs were sent out of state to a wonderful family that will be assessing them and working with them get them ready them for adoption.

Here are a couple pictures of these wonderful dogs. On outward appearances they look fine.

But sometimes spirits are broken and this is what our foster/safe house will be working on with each of these dogs.

Roxie, the dog on the right, has been adopted.  She went to a wonderful forever home with an older couple that thinks she is just perfect.
We want to thank Tami who is one of our foster/safe houses for rehabilitating Roxie and helping her heal so that she could be adopted.

(2) Belgium Draft Horses Looking For A Forever Home or A Foster/Safe House
We were contacted by a family that needs to place (2) Belgium Draft horses ASAP. We will be working with them to find a great forever home. They must be placed together! If you or anyone you know is interested in these horses please contact our rescue. We will set up a time for you to see both of them in person.

We are also considering a Foster/Safe House if you can provide that for these horses until they are placed. If you are a Foster/Safe House you will provide total care for these horses including but not limited to normal Vet care, Farrier services, feed & housing until we find them a forever home. Foster/Safe House services are a tax-deductible in-kind service. You will be provided an in-kind receipt for these services. You must keep all receipts for anything related to the care of these horses in order for us to provide you an in-kind donation receipt. If you have other horses on the property these receipts must not include any cost related to any other horses you house or own.

Babe & Zeus are very big boys. They are perfectly sound. Zeus goes on voice commands and can be mounted from any side and is very patient. . Babe is a big love - he loves to be groomed and pampered. They have spent 12 years together and I would hate to break them up now. Zeus had a throat defect that he was born with that makes it hard to swallow hay. He has outgrown that pretty much. In winter we give him alfalfa pellets to help with weight to make sure he gets enough when on hay for the winter. He does great on grass because it is wet from the dew. But they are both easy keepers really. They are up to date on shots and de-wormer. They are both broke to ride.

Please keep in mind these are very large horses and they require a large amount of food, a large area for shelter and like all animals a life long commitment if you make the choice to adopt them.
Keep in mind we took these pictures after it rained.  The horses had just rolled in the mud and we were not stopping them! The lighter colored horse is Zeus and the darker colored horse is Babe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Christmas Seven Horses
Many of you may have seen the new cast on Channel 6 News,
please click here to read the news story about the seven horses that were surrendered to our rescue Christmas Eve 2007.  What you have not seen is all of the suffering & pain they have endured.  Pictures do not tell the whole story.  We have spent a lot of time with all these horses.

Race & Karot are looking for a forever home. We hope to adopt them together as they have been together for a very long time and they are attached to each other.  Race, on the left below, is a TB/Quarter Horse Gelding, 18- 20 years old.  He is broke to ride and should be rode lightly due to his age.

Karot, on the right, is a Quarter Horse, 23 - 25 years old mare.  She is broke to ride and should be also be rode lightly due to her age.  Both of these horses are doing very well and are in a foster home together in Nebraska. They are both very sweet horses and need to find a great forever home that will love them.  They are current on shots.  Their hooves are done every (6) weeks and their teeth have just been floated.  They are ready to go to the right home.  Please call us if you are interested in Race & Karot. We are asking $400.00 for the pair.

Cinderella Has Been Adopted

Cinderella is a small white mule and she is looking for a forever home. With the help of Tina Murdock, a good friend, the three paint horses that were on the same property as Cinderella were removed and taken to her home to heal and they will be part of her herd of horses.  Thank you Tina for your help in this one!
This is a picture of (2) of the (7) ponies & horses that we removed from a Tabor, IA residence Christmas Eve 2007.

Bess & Babe were adopted to a wonderful family. This little girl is amazing with these ponies.  When we picked them up you could not touch them.  Now look at them.  This is an example of what a little love can do for animals. And, how little children make miracles happen.

We are working with the Nebraska Humane Society to try and place these wonderful horses.  This picture is a little old but we wanted to get them on our site ASAP to find them a forever home. Updated pictures will be posted ASAP. Can you help one of these horses by giving them a forever home?

Tula is a 4 yr old bay mare with a star/snip and 3 white ankles, she looks like she is a quarter/Arab cross and is very sweet natured. Tula is halter broke and that's it. We are going to start working with her on her ground manners though.

Fanny is a 10 yr old quarter/Arab cross bay mare with a stripe and 4 white ankles, Fanny is also very sweet natured but due to ringbone and arthritis in her front leg she will only be suited as a pasture companion.
Fanny gets around great and does not really appear to be bothered by the ringbone at this time. Fanny and Tula are very bonded to each other and look quite similar I suppose it is possible that Tula is Fanny's filly.

Then there is Jack, he is a 3 yr old bay gelding. Jack was still a stallion when we first took him in and then had him gelded after he started to put on weight. Jack was extremely fearful of people at first and we moved him to a foster home with a very knowledgeable horse women and he has come along way. He still has some trust issues to work on however.

Jack will do best with a home were someone has the time, patience and knowledge to continue his socialization and care.

Anyone interested in these horses can contact Kristie with the Nebraska Humane Society at 444-7800 ext 325.

We received this letter and we want to share it with everyone out there that loves animals.  After reading this if you can find it in your heart to adopt these two dogs please contact us as we are full at the rescue but we need to find these two poor animals a great home. They need a forever home as soon as possible! And the letter reads as follows:

I need help.  I am desperate and completely heartbroken. I had to move from my home in February, leaving my two dogs, and the young couple who were moving in my home said they would take care of them since I could not.  My dogs are 5 years old, a lab/shepherd mix.  Audi and Pasha.  Both are German Shepherd colored, Audi with a big lab head, Pasha with a more pointed shepherd head.

They are sisters, litter mates, and I have had them since they were a few weeks old.   They had a huge yard to run in, and when they had to go to the pen, it is a nice-sized pen. They were in the house with me whenever I was home, always sleeping indoors on the floor of my bedroom. Co-habiting with my two cats that were there before they moved in as puppies.
I always fed them high quality dog food from the pet store, even their diet has changed.  They have always been taken to the vet regularly for shots, and they were both fixed at a young age.  Even when they were pups, they never once went to the bathroom in the house, dug in the garbage, made any messes at all.
Audi has always been a little nervous, scared of thunderstorms, she is bigger and stronger and faster & the dominant one. Pasha is the quieter one, she has arthritis bad in one back knee.  They weigh around 70 and 75 pounds.
The young couple that has them now have not given them attention at all, do not take them from the pen, ever, do not let them in the house, their entire world is completely different. They have turned aggressive toward one another, cooped up all the time and totally miserable. The couple no
longer wants any responsibility for them. I know they must miss me as much as I have missed them, and their world is upside down, and they are so miserable. And now soon to be homeless.
I used to think that they had to be together, however, now even separated somewhere else would be an improvement over their neglected lives now.  It breaks my heart in two, and I am unable to have the dogs with me now.  I have tried to find homes for them, but no one wants 5 year old dogs.
Their lives are miserable, and I feel so sorry for them. I myself cannot sleep at night.  I do not know where to turn.  They are so faithful and would be excellent, loving pets for someone.  Surely there is someone in the world that can help them, but I do not know where to turn.
Do you have any suggestions?

Please call us or e-mail us and let's help this once "family" find peace again in all their lives.  The dogs are in Iowa now.

Any Horse that is adopted that is going out of state will require a Coggins before they can be picked up from our rescue facility.  This must be pre-paid before the horse is picked up, so that the Vet will have time for the test and the test results to be available to us.  A copy of the Coggins and health papers must be in your possession while transporting any horse across state lines.

For those of you who are not familiar with Coggins Test please click to read more to better understand why this is required.

Help them heal and make them whole again
